Half the Sugar Baker
These chocolate drizzled potato chips are inspired by the Trader Joe’s holiday Sweet and Salty snack mix. They have mini peanut butter pretzels, popcorn, peanuts, and chocolate covered chips. It’s almost the perfect mix, but there’s not enough of the chips and you don’t want to be the person that picks through the bag! That’s why I decided to make my own. You only need two ingredients and they’re so easy to make! They have the perfect combination of sweet, salty, crunchy, and creamy!
I seriously debated whether or not to make a whole post for these chocolate drizzled chips because they are just so easy to make, but I thought that I should share the recipe just in case. You will only need two ingredients: milk or dark chocolate and your favorite potato chips. Even though this recipe is super simple, I have a couple of tips!
Tips and notes:
Potato chips: you can really use any type of potato chip for this recipe, but I recommend using slightly thicker chips because they will hold up better. Super thin chips like the classic Lays chips might break too easily. Also, I recommend using ruffle chips if you have them for extra texture!
Chocolate: I recommend using milk chocolate because the sweetness balances out the salty chips, but you can also use dark chocolate. If you use dark chocolate, I would dust the chips with some powdered sugar, which also makes them look nice! Whichever chocolate you use, you will need to temper it (more on this later) so pick a high quality chocolate that has cocoa butter in it.
Tempering the chocolate: tempering chocolate is a process that lets you melt the chocolate so that when it cools, the chocolate will be shiny and crisp. It might sound complicated, but it’s actually super easy! You just want to make sure that the chocolate doesn’t get too hot. The best way to do this is to microwave the chocolate in short bursts. First, you will add your chocolate to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 15 seconds. Then you will stir it and microwave for another 15 seconds. Stir, then microwave for increments of 10 seconds until the chocolate is smooth and liquid.
